Sorry, Charlie.

On Friday, I started having cold symptoms.  A sore throat turned into coughing and congestion.  By Wednesday, I was sounding pretty bad.

One of my seventh graders asked me, “Are you losing your voice?”  I said that yes, I am sick and can’t talk much right now.  He pondered a moment and said, “If you’re not here next Tuesday, we won’t be able to start our presentations, will we?”

Nice try, kiddo.  I said, “I’d have to get a lot sicker than this to miss school.  And I have a four-day weekend in which to recover.  You’ll be presenting on Tuesday.”

This statement was met with groans of resignation.
